CLAIM PROCEDURES

1. TRANSFER OF PENSION BENEFITS

  • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
  • Written application letter by the member advising where the benefits should be transferred to.
  • Copy of the member’s National ID.

2. EARLY PAYMENT OF PENSION BENEFITS (CLAIM UNDER SECTION 88 OF THE PENSION ACT 2023)

  • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
  • Written application letter by the member advising that they have not secured another employment for a period of more than three months from the time they left employment and would like to claim their pension benefits.
  • Copy of the member’s National ID

3. CLAIM UNDER SECTION 93 OF THE PENSION ACT 2023

  • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
  • Written application letter by the member expressing interest to withdrawal funds immediately after leaving employment.
  • Copy of the member’s National ID.

Note: Benefits payable subject to rules of the fund applicable prior to the Pension Act 2010.

4. CLAIM UNDER SECTION 91 OF THE PENSION ACT 2023 (MEMBER LEAVING THE COUNTRY PERMANENTLY)

  • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer
  • Written application letter by the member expressing interest to withdrawal funds
  • Copy of the member’s National ID.
  • Details of the destination country, including town, city or address of residence.
  • Documentation showing emigration status which shall include:

    • i) Permanent Residence Permit or citizenship of the destination country; or
    ii) A letter signed by the Chief Immigration Officer confirming that the member has renounced the Malawian Citizenship or permanent residence status in Malawi.

5. RETIREMENT CLAIM

  • Normal Retirement

    • • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
    • Written application letter by the member expressing interest to retire.
    • Copy of the member’s National ID.

  • Early Retirement due to ill health

    • • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
    • Written application letter by the member expressing interest to retire on medical grounds.
    • Medical report issued by a medical practitioner or a legally constituted medical board; and
    • A copy if the medical practitioner’s registration certificate issued by Medical Council of Malawi; or
    • Where a condition that causes total and permanent disability requires an examination from a specialist and the medical practitioner issuing the medical report is not a specialist, the medical report shall include results of the consultation with a specialist.
    • Copy of the member’s National ID.

  • Early Retirement based on service.

    • • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
    • Written application letter by the member expressing interest to retire.
    • Covering letter from the employer / principal officer with confirmation of the member’s date of employment.
    • Copy of the member’s National ID.

6. DEATH CLAIM

  • Duly completed claim notification (withdrawal) form signed and stamped by the employer.
  • Death certificate or report from the National Registration Bureau / certified by medical practitioner registered with the Medical Council of Malawi; or a letter signed and stamped by a District Commissioner / A Traditional Authority from the deceased’s home district
  • Latest deceased’s beneficiary nomination form.
