NICO Life and NICO Pension have announced a combined sponsorship of MK15 million toward the 2025 Marcfarlane Mbewe National Science Quiz, a flagship program under the Malawi Liverpool Trust’s Science for All (Sci4O) Initiative. This contribution positions the Group as Platinum Sponsors of the national event, reaffirming NICO’s commitment to advancing science education, youth empowerment, and national development.
The sponsorship marks the beginning of a broader three-year partnership between NICO, MLWT and Science for All Foundation, designed to expand science outreach, promote innovation, and inspire young Malawians to pursue careers in health and scientific fields. The partnership is aligned with Malawi’s Vision 2063 ambitions of human capital development and technological advancement.
Speaking during the announcement, Chimwemwe Kanyenda, Chief Operating Officer at NICO Life, emphasized the importance of supporting initiatives that build national capacity:

The Marcfarlane Mbewe National Science Quiz reaches schools across Malawi, giving learners a platform to showcase knowledge, engage with scientific concepts, and build confidence through competitive learning. As part of the sponsorship, NICO will also deploy its staff to participate as mentors and judges while providing on-site financial literacy and product awareness support.

The partnership extends beyond the 2025 quiz, laying the foundation for the rollout of Science Ambassadors, rural school outreach, and the future establishment of the NICO Science Excellence Awards a national recognition platform for outstanding learners and educators.
A Three-Year Vision for Impact (2025–2027)
Across the next three years, NICO and MLWT and Science for All Foundation will collaborate on:
- Science outreach programs in primary and secondary schools across Malawi
- Mentorship and engagement sessions led by NICO employees
- Digital and media visibility campaigns to promote science education
- Impact measurement and annual CSR reporting on student reach and learning outcomes
- Launch of the NICO Science Excellence Awards to celebrate excellence in STEM
